I have an overhead light in the top of my silver tank which is home to this colony. Today a lot of red headed majors were out, and note the comings and goings into the nest entrance tunnel. This video was filmed through a metal mesh screen, but luckily my camcorder does focus beyond this and settles on the ants themselves. Switch the video to HD for best results.

Wow! What species are they? They are my silver tank colony of Messor barbarus, as I keep journals on this species; and if you look at the Messor barbarus board you will also find a species profile posted about this Harvester Ant.
