New arrival to this household is Katy.
An 8 week old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I have survived her first night! She cried for the first few hours, but ignoring her (very difficult) worked and she went from around 11pm to 4am which is a lot better than our other dog Bobby did. She's eating very well thankgoodness as it can be a nightmare to begin with. The piddling and pooping, well what can I say, I have the neighbours all on standby with news paper.
Teeth have already worked on a motherinlaw plant, now moved as it has a leaf with frilly edges! We'll get there, in a few weeks.........I don't know how I coped the last time and went to work.......

Having returned with a few doggy toys and puppy collar and lead from the pet store, I decided to take some photos as Wood has done some video of her. So here is Katy being a typical mischievous little girl; but at the same time an adorable and loveable one too.

I have to agree with you on this Steve, as Katy had 2 other sisters and a brother; but she was the first to come and greet me where we bought her, and she was such a cutie it was love at first sight. She also had the right Blenheim colour for me, as her 2 sisters and brother didn't have the attractive coat our little girl has got. She is so gorgeous but quite a handful being a baby. We are taking her to the vet this afternoon for her first inoculations, so fingers crossed she will be brave and not yell the place down.

Beautiful! I wish you luck with her. My Staffie puppy (One year old now) used to cry for hours every night for the first few weeks. One site suggested that I take down my clock and put it under her blankets, as the ticking would sound similar to her mother's heartbeat. She immediately lifted the blankets up and knew what it was. It's similar to taking care of a human baby in some ways. A mobile and destructive baby.

Today we fitted a baby gate to the kitchen door, to give us escape time sat down for some barbeque chicken at dinnertime, who should be behind us? Katy she can squeeze between the bars of the baby gate! Looks like I am going to have to fatten her up...... First jabs today, all went well until 15 seconds later when she screamed the place down. But everybody made a fuss of her as she has the ahh factor, at the moment. 4 weeks until the second jab now, it's not 2 anymore.

Jen had to get up and puppy sit from 1.15 this morning, as Katy was very distressed with the soreness of the injection site and was yelling loudly. Once she saw Jen (who slept all night on the settee) Katy became happy and calmed down. This morning she is back to normal and is getting very good with toilet training, doing most of her poops and piddles on sheets of newspaper.

Loving times with mum giving cuddles to Katy, and when Jen isn't available it is a case of curl up to something warm and fluffy. In this case our Lhasa Apso dog Bobby.

Katy was whimpering and sounding very distressed at 1am this morning, but as she normally goes back to sleep Jen and I ignored it. By 2 am Jen couldn't stand it any longer and took Katy into her room, as Bobby (our Lhasa) sleeps under her bed while the baby is kept in the kitchen as she isn't fully toilet trained yet. As soon as Katy was placed on Jen's bed she crashed and went off to sleep in seconds. Peace reigned supreme until 6.30, which is good as the wake up time is normally 4am. Oh the joys of having a baby around the home again I wouldn't change it though, even if sometimes I wonder if getting another puppy was a moment of madness.

After play time in her doggy playpen, what better than to relax and just chill out. "Butter wouldn't melt in my mouth mum" you can almost hear her saying. "Yes it would" says Bobby our 12 year old Lhasa Apso.

Typical isn't it, we buy a nice dog bed for the puppy as our older dog prefers to lie on the cold floor and only wants his old doggy mattress in winter, and what happens today? Bobby our 12 year old has curled up in the dog bed with Katy. On seeing this we have now ordered another bed for him, as if the old boy feels comfy placing his old body on her soft furry bed, then he will hopefully make use of one when it arrives later this week.

Katy was 12 weeks old last Friday, and is going back to the vets this morning for her remaining vaccine injection. Last time she was just 8 weeks old and screamed the place down, so we are expecting the same today as Andrew who is a nice vet and head of the practice has told us Cavs are a sensitive breed. Roll on the next 2 hours as then it will all be over bar the shouting from our baby girl, which hopefully will only last a short time.

Katy is now piddling and pooing outside "sometimes" :PTrying 2hr toilet rounds like I used to with patients at the hospital. Frustration is when she comes back in and heads for the paper, I am not brave enough to remove it quite yet She is getting used to the outside world, loves the woods but also wants to chase everything in sight including kids on bikes! Bobby our Lhasa is a plod dog takes his time being 12yrs, Katy gets inpatient waiting and has now started grabbing him by the base of the lead and tries to pull him to hurry up
