We haven't found that many as yet, but Jen did collect 7 newly mated Lasius niger queens on the path in our garden. There should be a lot more yet to fly, and still no signs of the L. flavus having nuptial flights so far, but July isn't over yet; and they can still fly in August too.

I've found a few in the last couple days, I think they were mated as they had no wings, caught one today trying to dig down in my plant pot .

Up in Scotland there seems to be little activity for the flights. I am down in Blackpool and just today found a queen in the allotment. Sent from my ST26i using proboards

Today I have checked out the Lasius niger queens Jen collected 3 days ago. 1 has died, another is alive but has not laid any eggs; and the rest all have between 10 and 15 eggs. It is amazing how fast young queen ants found their dynasty, as the quicker they lay eggs, the sooner they found a colony.

I have just seen at least 70 newly mated niger queens running around on our car park. I managed to collect about 13, and we will sell any which lay eggs later this year and found good colonies. If anyone fancies have some, we are short of test tubes, so if you can send any test tubes you have spare you can have a queen for free. Please PM me for further details about prices, which will be cheap and very affordable.
