Thursday 17th October 2013 I returned home to find an absolute disaster. This colony is only half the size it was a few weeks ago. Somehow the rubber stopper had been knocked out of the foraging area while I was away (the cat or a younger sibling are the prime suspects). The ants have been escaping all over my room, and I have already gathered several dozen dead ants and just one survivor in the space of an hour. The remaining ants inside the nest move very little, there is little remaining brood with no pupa or large larvae left and no foraging activity. The only good news is that all 6 queens are still alive and inside the nest. The ants have taken no notice of some honeywater and cricket I have left for them. I hope this colony can regain its’ numbers.

Monday 4th November 2013 I have taken this colony to University with me, and they have been eating quite a bit. There is some more foraging, and although the Queens have laid some eggs recently, the larvae that are left do not appear to be growing. The ants seem to be slowing down for the winter which is expected as it is chilly here without the heating on!
