Beautiful looking queen! And it looks like she and her daughter have overcome the first hurdle to forming a successful colony.

I'm 99% sure they're Compotonus floridanus now, from other sources and speaking to local ant collectors and whatnot. I need to find a good place online to make an image album... Current resources have been driving me insane. Everything tries to compress or modify the images, rather than just letting them BE. So I'm up to 4 nanitics now, and one was tearing at the cotton last night when I got home from work. So I fixed up a mixture of sugar water (not TOO strong!).. then cobbled together a tube, a q-tip, and some cotton. Now they have a little feeder... and they immediately bloated themselves on the sugar water and greedily fed the queen. It was brilliant. They're doing well. Edit: And her eggs are definitely oval in shape. She's Campo.

Haven't had much time to post lately. The colony is doing very well, they're up to 10+ nanitics now, and the colony is very active. I feed them a mixture of stuff I got from Tarheels Ants, dead bugs, and the occasional piece of organically grown fruit. Sometimes I also give them some raw honey from a place I trust.
They are living in a formicaria I purchased from Tarheels as well and doing excellently!
