He deleted his journal, feeling it was more appropriate elsewhere. Good to see you in deansie

Could you give me a price range for a set up for these as when I get a house I'm really considering it thanks Hi, I just picked up things over time. The wooden box was done by a guy on gumtree who builds garden boxes to order. I just gave him my sizes, cost £100 built and delivered. Inside is thick celotex insulation that I picked up cheap on gumtree from various people. Second hand exo, long soil heating cable cheap on eBay. pulse statt about £35 The clear plastic pipe becomes expensive, would recommend bulk buying and save on postage. Ants are more expensive the bigger the colony you fancy, mine was around £120 if I recall right. Sorry can't give you a exact price but every set up is different. Not cheap to get going but cheap to run. Any questions feel free ?

Two steps forward 3 steps back Ants where doing great and almost finished second garden but I emptied a container to half fill it with soil and loosened a pipe and lost loads of ants, so my has so I doubt they will be able to maintain all the current fungus. Totally gutted grrrr

Hi again, wanted to build a simple foraging table for the summer, very basic ha ha, bit of a sawn shelf, small plot pots and a plastic box. I sawed it in half very roughly lol. Be nice to watch them over the summer close up

Been reading your journal Deansie and I have to say I'm hooked on leaf cutting ants . I've also been speaking to a couple of people about advice on keeping them. Is a soil set up the best type of nest for Attas?

Is a soil set up the best type of nest for Attas? Hi there! Glad you liked the journal There just amazing to keep, best pet I've owned and I've had loads-poison arrow dart frogs a close second. I'd say a soil set up would give you the least problem and the ants adjust things by themselves more. For example in the hot summer they would widen the entrance to allow more air exchange, and or to adjust the humidity it the nest. I've done both and the fungus grows in the soil free set up bit it isn't as healthy looking and milky white as it was in the soil. You have ideas on a set up?

I'm not completely sure yet as I will need to do more research. Do you have any tips on keeping leafcutting ants in the clear boxes formicarium? I got the basics high humidity and 25ish degrees.

Are you the only person who keeps leafcutting ants in the UK? Only person on this forum at the moment I believe but not in the UK, there will be many. Reading journals is the best way from what I found and asking questions
