I have just been browsing all kinds of Tarantula spiders, but most seem rather aggressive or have strong venom. Jen fancies having one, but we don't know what species are docile and suitable, so if anyone wishes to offer any advice then please do. UK Tarantula Shop

I had a Chilean rose for years, as well as Mexican red kneed. The Chili was very tame, I handled her most days. Very relaxed, do not flick hair as much as the others either and never been bitten. I recommend getting a spiderling or two as its more fun watching them grow and keeping their shed skins as they develop. Males only live 3-4 years while females 10 -15 on average.

Can't go wrong with a B smithi. That can be your second! I read these eat pinky mice when they get full sized. I prefer the smaller insect eating kind.

Hang on Mako, I haven't got this one yet I just hope I am doing the right thing, not having had a spider before, but I have always wanted one... It should be here early next week, as they only post Mon-Thurs.

Nice not many ladies are in to spiders in fact many are scared of them. And Grats Jen on your spider .
If you have a pet store that are over stocked on them, You can be lucky and get the odd spider for free.

I've bought before from tarantulasbristol, good shop and cheap prices. I think the spider you choose is perfect, you can even handle it without danger of being bitten (although I do not recommend it). Be careful with spiders, they are much easier to keep than ants and it is an addictive hobby

The Tarantula Jen is getting is from Honduras and central America. This is the one on this video, so don't watch if you're scared of big spiders.

All tarantula will eat pinky mice from a young spider. I had a chile rose tarantula that I got at adulthood and I all so got a spiderling at the same time. When it got to 5 cm leg span it started to eat pinky mice but you don't need to feed it them as this slows down feeding.

Be careful of feeding too much pinky mice. Too much calcium can give them a bad moult. Crickets and roaches are better.

I don't have adult spiders, but I would feed them (dead) mices only once a year, maybe to females ready to lay.
