As I type Lasius niger queens are wandering all around my garden, I have caught 3 queens my self. I am just hoping Lasius flavus fly soon too.

Last year I made the mistake of catching too many queens, and it was a bit of a pain trying to make homes for them

Last year I made the mistake of catching too many queens, and it was a bit of a pain trying to make homes for them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I get to many queens on my garden. When they start which it seems its not today. My mum and many if there's loads close to house see's them as pests "Lasius niger". Was just wondering if the so called doomed queens could be used as lunch for some ant colonys ? I know they're high in protein for any insect bird or animal, I'm not one either that likes to go around poisoning them or using fly spray, as for one it don't give anything a chance to get away and two it can poison anything that eats them even other ant colonys that find them or animals.

Yes, I have just picked a few up off the car park and back garden for Wood, he is having fun in the kitchen (listen for the swearing) He's chasing them round the work top as I type this as they are escaping from the jar I put them in. Not seen the flavus yet.

He should try and put them in a slippy large old cooking bowl, if you get lots and put them in and can easy pick up queens to house as they try and climb up sides.
Last yeah I had to let go 14 queens as I can't house them as I had them in a cricket box, The little workers to escaped though the small holes on side of box so won't use them again to house queens in.

Shane, if you catch too many Queens, I will happily take them off your hands. I will pay for P&P, so if you do catch too many just drop me a PM.

All of London has kicked off since 12pm today with Lasius niger. Humid and warm for them today! I grabbed four, put one in a small tub of soil and three into a tube together for an experiment. Grabbed x2 last week as-well, in a tube each with eggs and larvae already, so I have enough now! Anyone sees Myrmica rubra, let me know!! Just stepped outside with the phone, the pavements are full of mated Queens!!!

Kent has had a good flight today as well.
My girlfriend nan rang up to come round with some ant killer as she said there was big ants.My girlfriend wasn't impressed when I told her I have no interest in helping an elderly lady kill ants. However I did take a load of pots to collect them.
