I'm in Bristol, I heard there were flights but I didn't see any but I did find one on the grass about to dig into the ground and put her in a test tube. I've been carrying test tubes around all day!

Like the video Chicken2012, you have 2 nice large healthy queens. We are still waiting for our flavus to fly down here in Sussex. Sounds like your voice is starting to break too, and I know how awkward it is adding a bit of commentary on my own videos with outside noises.

Thanks Wood, there are 4 queens there not two by the way. Sorry, I was half watching a UFO TV programme and only saw 2 of the queens. I should have known as you did say you had 4 queens.

Each year they seem harder to get hold of, I must be getting old. The queens get into the rough tarmac and you get frightened of damaging them, they are so fast at running off. Where the cars park outside our gate, it is a smoother raised concrete so it's easier. Wood gives me the job, as he can't see them and his hands are too big I get some funny looks off the kids, but not one has asked what am I doing. The neighbours just think I'm mad picking ants up, I got the same when I told them I was gettng a Terrantula. First question was "Why?", because I have always wanted one!

Haha, Luckily I am able to collect the queens in my garden so no one sees me, but I know what you mean about getting weird looks when you are collecting ants.

Not seen any queens or males around yet, but they are preparing the nest entrance for flight.

I want to try and get some close up shots of flavus, before they fly. The little devils always keep me waiting, as it's usually evening time here when they take off. One year I waited and watched, it was 9pm when it happened. Those were the days when work got me up for 5am, now on my early retirement, it's the dogs

Not see flavus fly yet the only time I have seen them is when I was at my grandads in england and they where eating a worm on the slabs.

Haha, Luckily I am able to collect the queens in my garden so no one sees me, but I know what you mean about getting weird looks when you are collecting ants. I am often surprised that women ask me questions when I'm ant hunting. Much more than men or older children do in fact, and many women don't find it odd either.
