If I had any doubts about the young queen in my Q2 colony, there is actually a small clutch of eggs among the mass of pupae and larvae. While they are hard to spot, newly laid eggs are there.

That is a brilliant lot of workers on their way. How much protein does a colony of that size require a week Wood?

2 frozen crickets a week is all they get, plus whatever seeds they take into the nest. They will also eat meal worms and freshly killed beetles, plus any other fresh dead insects or spiders; but never more than 3 a week as if I overfeed them they will leave dead bodies which just grow fungi or mould, and cleaning out a big colony is no joke when you have dozens of ants trying to make a great escape rush.
