Manual focus this time. You need a steady hand >_<

You're getting better. How close are you when focusing as I see the lens seems sharper on the left of the picture.

I should imagine that the pictures would be more stunning if taken of larger species of ant.

The more magnification you use, the lens focuses on sections like a vignette as it puts a soft out of focus around the outside. You end up cutting out the part it has focused on. Your getting there Myrm, but it can be frustrating at times. You take loads of photos to come out with a couple. The telephoto/macro lens is even worse for shake, as it is a lot heavier and the zoom is more. It's no wonder they say use a tripod, but I hate them as they are so inconvenient

Tried manual focus but because the ants move around so quickly I focussed on a spot where they went a lot and then tried capturing a shot as they passed through. It's not easy. >_<

Is that Lasius niger on the first pic? Love the second one, it's really good!

Thank you
Yes, it is Lasius niger. She was on the inside of the glass side of her nesting box (above ground) and so I just though I'd take a test shot of her. So you're seeing her underside >_<

Have you taken the above with the Macro telephoto your £500 one as I'm confused as to what you didn't keep now?

Purchase a good tripod to steady the camera! There are arguments against and for, I am for a tripod and a bit of patience. On that note I am currently looking at setting up a web cam to run continuously... I will create another thread!

KK, getting better at this. I moved my tanks to another room of my house which gets a lot more natural sunlight to it and this improves the pictures take:
