Are you going to fill the worm world with sand/clay because that's exactly the area I found them in nature back in France, and they seemed to love it? Beautiful colony Shane!

I may keep it as a clean nest set up as its to wide to put sand or clay in as if I have to move it about or vibrations would just cores cave in's.

Liber ants clean set-ups that I've seen on youtube look great. They really make the ants stand out more, definitely the way to go I think. After all the ants are the stars of the show! Easier to keep clean too I reckon.

Hello Shane, your photos and videos amaze me, they are fantastic, what do you use? I have just started keeping Camponotus cruentatus and I have one large ant that tries to see me off every time I open the lid, is there any thing I can try to stop them climbing over the top? I have thought about keeping them with a water moat, for their safety as well as mine lol while I get used to them.

Not sure but I've read that they can walk through oil and Vaseline too so it wouldn't surprise me. Maybe there's nothing that can stop these little monsters! I just can't wait to see what they're really like with my own eyes

Unless its fully covered.
My colony don't seem to want to attack me but will take food from your hands I had stopped doing that though now cos the colony is at a size where they would keep coming and going on your hand in a chain non stop, so my hand would never rest like a statue.

Fantastic photos of that major eating, I always love seeing your pics and videos of your ants in action or attack stance.

400 is not bad as European Camponotus species don't seem to get very big colonies in the wild, so probably not over 1,000 or so in captivity. Your colony still outnumbers mine as I only have 1 queen and 4 workers at present, but they do have plenty of brood so hopefully may catch yours up a bit Shane?

Even with all brood, 90% of time they all seem to laze around in nest feeding one another and not move then the 2 to 7 scouts at times.
And I think 400 seems to be max as some have started to die off.

Sorry to hear that, I really enjoyed the videos of this colony. You appear to be having bad luck with your colonies recently, I hope it improves soon. It's my worst nightmare if one of my cats was to knock over my Pheidole pallidula tank.

Right now its hard to keep an eye on everything, Dog's still a pup but she easy gets scared when she's on her own, Winder cleaner had been around when I was out and with blinds open dog went around house and my room jumping around and hiding at back off stuff.
Going to have to leave blinds down next time.
