okay cool I'll check it out. Also went on a google search spree...they sound sucky to have as pets...take forever to multiply, like really forever...and they aren't smart like ants. They say that they are far better with their communication than ants...maybe in certain areas of living but in war they suck...they never worl together in war...when I was little me and my big brother used to make ants and termites fight...it always ended up the same way...termites scattering for safety while ants bundle together to take out one at a time... And then the worst of all is that if the termites escape, you might have to abandon your house or electricute your wood panels or floors to get rid of them... And in my own opinion...rolling your queen around like a jelly baby when in danger is just disrespectful and freaky.

Macrotermes if escaped would do pretty much no damage. Depending on the environment, they can multiply quite quickly and are relatively easy to keep. Also a great ant food

Termites are incorrectly called "white ants", but are related to cockroaches. True ants are more closely related to bees and wasps, except that worker ants do not fly and are more like a wingless wasp, which they were a few hundred million years ago. While wingless wasps and some bee species live singly and do not form colonies, ants on the other hand have evolved into the social insects we see today.

Macrotermes...unfortunately I have the sucky big ones that eat my house! Well I think. Will do check out that link to learn more. I suddenly don't want to touch termites again...roaches freak me out!! But maybe like you say Formica, I can keep them as food for my ant colony...to the hunting grounds!

One of my favourite movies is Zulu about Rorke's Drift, and in this film one of the stars says "What a country, everything gets eaten by ants", which actually he is referring to termites eating anything made from wood, houses included.

Hahaha. True that. Luckily I can see that they are being over run by the smallest ant in my yard. L.capensis. I lifted up all my cement stones in the foot path leading from the sliding door and I found termites and the L.capensis...termite heads are lying everywhere underneath...its like they have secret wars every now and then. "You think you funny with your big head. I show you, capish!"
