How is the nest hydrated exactly?

There is a 'plaster' along the edges which you hydrate, water then seeps through the sheets of acrylic and sparingly hydrates the nest!

The two strips on each side of the nest is hydrated by a pipette or syringe or something small. You have to do it sparingly as it appears to be an oasis strip like fresh flowers are pushed into at the florists.

That's a great predatory colony you got there. Really love them soldiers, check out the size of those mandibles! You wouldn't want one of them up your nose lol

15cm square is the size of the nest. For larger species you need a bigger nest.

You can see the brilliant size difference between the bluebottle fly and the tiny workers at (being only a few millimetres) . Pheidole are a truly amazing species.

Pheidole pallidula workers are actually much smaller than Temnothorax queens, and about the same size as the workers of the latter.

Only I couldn't trust it, as the fly's round my way are HUGE due to all the dog s**t that their bloody owners don't clean up!

Would the nest you are using be fine for my Lasius niger colony with 20 workers or should I wait till the colony gets bigger?
