A video here of my mature Lasius flavus back garden colony... some male alates retreated down to the nest.

Yours are more advanced, I noticed this morning around here they are just starting to open the nests up with air holes.

It's the heat and high humidity of London Jen! Still have had no Lasius niger fly here with the weather. Maybe something will happen this weekend!

You can always tell when they are getting close to flying, the mound fluffs up and has lots of worker on the surface. The alates should follow soon as the weather is warming up again from mid week.

L.flavus that were nesting under the pool which was packed away today, and they still had queen pupae. Bit late I'd have thought?
