What do you guys tell the Post office when your sending out ant colonies? I feel very awkward when they ask me what I'm sending in the parcel. Sometimes I say that it's a children's toy but then they ask if it has batteries.
I'm looking for the perfect excuse for the question- what's inside the parcel?

I just buy an envelope with bubble rap inside and rap tissue paper around test tube and tape it to a card, buy 3 stamps that covers the wait of the envelope and it should take no more then 2 days and post it just a hour before pick up out side post office, as long at its in uk.

My local one just shows me a card and asks "is there anything on there that's inside the parcel?" Which is the best way, another one I go to will ask me in a stern manner, so I advoid that one now. As the ants are usually wrapped in bubblewrap, I too usually say a soft toy no batteries. Yet all these companies send out livestock, but it feels awkward saying you are sending ants in the post. I try to wrap it so it falls through the slot, as if you guess the postage they won't take it or somebody has to pay extra the other end.

Thanks for the answers. I have just found out something very useful to everyone. It's fine to send out insects with the Royal Mail. You need to tell them that the parcel contains live insects and use First class shipping, clearly labeled "Urgent - Living Creatures - Handle With Care" I'll be less anxious next time

We stick these on our parcels and a notice saying livestock handle with care! It's the rules here in the UK, the post mistress always calls my parcels "our little friends" lol Can confirm lol (bought your erratic ants)

Not sure how many queens were meant to be in the colony but I think I've counted 8 so far!
