I have just ordered a Manica Rubida Queen, what I would like is some advice I intend to keep her test tube in a small container and to leave the test tube open so the Queen can go and get some food, also hopefully leave the leftovers outside of the test tube or would I be better just putting food in the test tube for her and leaving the cotton wool in to block the exit, any advice would be appreciated,I just wanted to keep a species on ants that was totally different then my other species of ants.

I think most people have had difficulty keeping this species as the queens are easily stressed out. They don't like disturbances and I doubt they like light so all that would need to be kept to a minimum. I would provide an outworld so the queen can forage. I would think about the test tube exit size as I would try and keep it as small as possible for the queen to enter and exit. I don't think I have ever seen anyone keep a colony long before it runs into problems mostly from the foundation stage. Hope it goes well for you.

Thanks, although it will be difficult to keep clean I intend to have lots of ground cover for them, likes pieces of bark so she can feel more hidden even when foraging.

I think that this would be a good set up for the Queen once she has about 50-100 workers

They still haven't shipped my Queen ant,I've used a company not listed on the site list,I'm a bit dubious now as I used them once before when I ordered a nest and a bit of decorative wood but it never arrived,I did receive a refund though, just thought I'd give them a second chance.

Much to my surprise I received the Queen 10 minutes ago,yet on the site it still says processing your order,as soon as I took out the test tube from the packaging she was very active, she as a pile of eggs and a few larvae,I placed a chopped up mealworm in the test tube and sealed the test tube back up with cotton wool,I am expecting a small plastic fish tank to be delivered in the next couple of days, which I intend to drill a large hole in for future tubed expansions, then temporary blocking the hole and placing her test tube in the tank and a bit of substrate.
