This lovely big queen just arrived from Antsrus. I only see one egg at the moment which is hidden in the cotton, but hopefully there will be more to come. Chris said that she had about four eggs when she was posted yesterday, so sadly she must've eaten some already. I certainly hope that this queen is fertile, unlike my last attempt at keeping this species. I'd forgotten how big they are! Comments and feedback are welcome.

Don't hold your breath for this year, as my own queen of this species never lays a lot of eggs; and this year's brood is just 6 larvae. I find she lays better in the spring and my colony never seems to be more than 35 workers, as I did expect it to be over a hundred by now.

I'll be happy though if she raises just a few workers this year.

The queen now has three eggs. She turned down a drink, so I've wrapped her up in foil again until next Wednesday.
