(Surprised to see the picture of snowdrops, Jen. We haven't seen those yet here, hundreds of miles to the south and following a warm January. But we are in the middle of the North American continent, and having a rather cold February, so I suppose they're waiting.)
On to anty things. Nice little article. I have noted over in the Myrmecology forum that the Argentine name "hormiga tigre" would probably be better translated jaguar ant than tiger ant. But either way a fabulous creature. It's not quite accurate that (as stated in the article) they are the "most primitive" ant. Their very large size and secondary loss of a distinct queen caste, along with some other technical features, are evolved traits.
