My myrmica rubra attacked my tropical leaf cutter ants nest and killed it! My leaf cutters were expensive!

maybe if you get some more leafcutters you should keep them separate so they will not attack each other sorry to hear about your loss though

Hi Jay, and welcome to our Ant Hill I'm sorry to hear about your leaf cutters getting slaughtered by your M. rubra I find it quite amazing too! Was it an Atta colony? Most leaf cutter colonies containing a good number of workers would also have "soldiers" in it. I am surprised that M. rubra managed to entirely exterminate the whole colony; it is incredible to believe that they could do this

I am shocked how a M.rubra colony could eliminate an Atta colony . As wood says they have a soldier caste and they are TOUGH! I would have thought it would have been the other way round. By the way what was the population aprox for the atta's and rubras? Chris Also where did you get your atta colony from?

Hi Jay, Welcome to this forum. I can't believe that if you spent so much on the leaf cutters, why didn't you take better care that they were in a safe environment for them and your pocket I doubt that you will put another colony in danger again though when it can be prevented, even if they are kept in close proximity.
