I wrote to an ant collector named Kalytta which we have known for some years. I commended him on his good quality service and his great website! I assumed he still collected for Antstore but this was his reply.....
Hello Jenant, thanks for advertising us at your site. We are not collecting and working for Antstore any more since about October 2006. There was no way to continue corporate with Antstore since I don't want to cheat customers with unmated colonies or ants in very bad condition. Regards, Gerhard Kalytta
His last comment was rather worrying, and when I think back, yes we have had poor quality colonies, putrid water in test tubes, dead ants, from Antstore in the past. It does make you wonder are we getting value for money with some of these companies, or are they just ripping us off!
If you think the Antstore logo at the top of the forum should be removed say yes in a post below.

The only problem I have is there long delivery times. Now that I live in the UK I use Edu-Sci which I like, but I think they source most of there stock from Ant store in Germany anyway! I know for a fact my Ant farm starter kit A is from Antstore as I rang up to enquire where they were from. All in all, so far I have no problems with either, but a lot of people seem too.

well that's hard to say because I still get equipment from them, but I did order a Acromyrmex queen the other day, OK delivery but died within 7days but she came with no fungus, but just trying to ask them a question and get an answer is like getting through a wall with a tooth brush lol so I would say do not buy ants form antstore but their equipment is OK. hope this helps

Sadly I think that Ant Store's service has gone down over time, as they once did supply good ants. Now it is possible to buy a lot of the stuff they sell from UK ant suppliers, and as for buying ant colonies or queens, this does boil down to which ever company you find gives you the best value for money; and the healthiest ants which will last for a long time, I.e. not those that die off in only a matter of weeks or days, or arrive dead in the post Good ant suppliers will often give a replacement as long as their stocks allow, so it is best to shop around

His service is excellent with good quality stock too

I've looked but can't seem to find them. If you mean Antsectopia site, post & packing is included in the price, so there is no added charges hidden. The price you see is the price you pay

My only worries with Antstore were always their extortionate prices! they blatantly over charge for what they sell, and the prices given are very misleading, as I once ordered a colony of Lasius niger from them, thinking I would be paying €9.99, but after I'd completed the process and they'd added all their daft charges, it came to well over €25! However, the ants I received were healthy and active. Nathan

I think this is probably the main reason why Ant Store has lost customers, especially from the UK, as we now have some very good ant sellers trading online here. From reports I get, the better German ant seller is Kalytta, while here in England I can certainly vouch for Antsectopia as giving good service and value for money I find it easier on my old brain cells to trade in £'s instead of €'s anyway
