Here's why right, I live in South Africa. Now in south Africa the ant specie here DOES NOT DIG MUCH, maybe 1-2 centimeter's . But if you look below wood ants ants Dig the whole Formica. It is so unfair all the nice ants are mid or top of Africa and none here at the bottom. Also in Britain so many people enjoy ants. Here I can't even talk about it because all my school friends will call me a nerd and nobody in the whole of Cape Town collects . People are so clueless . Here when mating flights occur everybody's like Hey a flying ant! And when you tell them that its the mating flights they either say EEEW! or no its flying ants. Also people on this forum have no problem giving ants to each other, everybody is so kind and generous for example Quah sharing his ants, and Wood and Jenant which by the way are 2 AMAZING people. Wish I could have the same BRITAIN EVEN HAS A ANT STORE!!!. Hope I am heard. Regards Caydenn

lol, I feel your pain my staff think I'm bonkers in work talking about ants, and the idea of keeping/breeding cockroaches for my ants to eat..well....... I certainly don't discuss it down the pub.
Your certainly amongst the right people here if you want to discuss or just chat about these little things.

I wouldn't be jealous of us Caydenn, as it can be hard to find many of our ant species at times, especially this year what with us having a mostly cold wet summer during July; and August hasn't been much better. I would love to have a lot of different ant species from around the world, but as most require special conditions and extra heating, it is not really possible or practical to do so Other European countries have a far greater number of genera/species than we Brits have, but whether you only have a few or a lot of ant species, it can still be fun observing, studying or keeping what ants you get, as they are all fascinating in their own way and have much the same social nature no matter what country they live in. Even the more dangerous kinds are only living the same way they've done for millions of years, so it's not their fault if we humans come into conflict with them, as the ants were here first and will probably still be around long after we've become extinct as a species Enough of my rant; just enjoy what ants you can get, as they are just as likely going to be as much fun as the ones you can't
