my longest lasting colony came to an abrupt end sometime this morning when my Pheidole got out and found there nest, and they've also killed my wax worm pupa and a small Lasius niger nest

Sorry to read this, but it does go to show how aggressive even the smallest ants can be if those Pheidole wiped out fierce ants like M. rubra

It's always sad to lose an entire colony, especially if you've had them a long time. Sorry to hear this Kyle. How long had you kept your rubra colony before its untimely demise

Thanks they were coming up to about 4 years old 300 workers Strong, I think the sudden aggression could be because they have just produced a lot of winged queens and males (the Pheidole that is)

Really? myrmica rubra were wiped out by the phedole?? Are you sure? I still can't believe that! I knew they were warlike ants but if they only had about 200 workers(remember my thread?) how could they have wiped out your rubra? I can't believe that!

the Myrmica rubra had approx 300 workers and the pheidole have at least 1000+ , it did not take long I know that for sure within 7 hours, (between the time I went to bed and the time I got up)
