I started a Formica cinerea ant farm and they seem to be o.k and they love to eat meal worms. But the Queen ant is not laying any eggs . Does it have to be a certain temperature for her to lay eggs ? Should I feed them more meal worms ? If you have any advice on why my queen Formica cierea is not laying any eggs please let me know thanks.

As ants of the Formica genus are still in hibernation in Britain, I imagine that the same probably applies to them in most parts of the USA. If your queen is eating, she should start laying eggs around March or April. Does your colony have workers from last year, or is it still in the early founding stage?

My colony has 3 workers from last year. No reason why the queen should fail to lay eggs this year then

I don't think mine hibernated although they are just starting to pop out and I fed them for the first time yesterday 1 queen and 4 workers.
