I have got a colony of M.rubra (I think ) I got these September the 12th, but the only time I seen these ants was September the 12.
I wanted to know how do I find out if I've got a colony of ants or not when it time for them to come out of hibernation?

You may not see much movement until Spring, but if you try warming your colony up for a few days then you might just see some worker ants Just remember to put the colony back into hibernation after you've done this.

Hi theamari98, and welcome to the Ant Hill As you may already know, moths are nocturnal and usually only fly at night or at least in low light conditions. If your friend's Camponotus queen eats moths, then she may also eat butterflies and caterpillars This queen may eat other things which haven't been tried yet, but often a young queen ant who is going through the process of colony founding will hardly eat at all, as she uses her reserves to raise her brood. Only when she has workers to forage will she perhaps eat more. As ants also love sweet foods, and these give them energy, maybe you could try some honey or sugar water; but as long as the queen is alive and healthy, then don't worry too much if she shows a lack of interest in food at the moment As you have asked a question about moths, you really should have posted it in a separate thread, as your post is a bit 'off topic' for here

:)I have a part-time job....ant-sitting. That sounds cool. Does it pay well I wonder, or is it just a hobby?
