Hi all, I've been present in some other ant-ing forums but haven't forayed in to this one as of yet.
Could anyone point me in the direction of a website showing all the UK ant species? A friend has described a very small ant living on her doorstep in northern Ireland and I'm confused as to what it is.
Thanks, HexagonalB

Hi Hexagonalbolts and welcome to the Ant Hill It is not always easy to specifically identify or speculate what an ant species may be, unless you either have a very good photo or a dead specimen to examine; but you might find my site may help on this page} www.anthillwood.co.uk/britishantspecies.htmThere are fewer ants in Ireland than on the UK mainland, so that may narrow it down a little; and we could narrow it down still further if we know what colour it is?

Wood is right, as I think Ireland only has about 7 main ant species, and no more than 10 all across Eire. So if we knew what colour this ant was we could perhaps take a calculated guess, as it could only belong to a few species
