Some of you will have heard of the recent Solar Flare caused by a eruption on the sun today, and the area it originated from is estimated to be the size of Jupiter. This is the largest flare that has taken place in four years. The effect is a electromagnetic and radioactive storm that hit Earth today, jamming some communications and radio stations. But there is a good side- we will be getting a Aurora Borealis in the night sky for the next three days! The 'Northern lights' are caused by the solar wind going through the atmosphere, which is what causes the spectacular light shows in the Arctic. Starting today, we should be getting some. If it is true, then I am certainly going to reach for my camera. This is what a Aurora Borealis effect looks like: Personally, I'm looking forward to this. ;D

I remember seeing something like this once when I was younger (7-10), it was down Cornwall way I belive, but I remember it being a rather deep red in colour almost rolling accros the sky (altho I had no idea what it was at the time). So too be able to see something like that again would be brill but living in the SouthEast I doubt I will.
