my 1st question is the picture on Community Chamber :: Social Insect Room, the ants with the seeds, can Lasius niger eat them? my 2nd question is, do edu-sci have healthy ants? don't want a dead queen ant. bonus question what happens if the queen is dead when I get it? do I have to replace it, or will they give me a replacement or my money back? my 3rd question, is this good value for money? ( store.edu-sci.com/starter-Lasius-niger-colony-p-359.html) and has anyone got any idea how to make my dad buy it for me, or persuade him that the site is safe? oh yea, am I going over the top asking these questions or am I doing the right thing? cheers guy's and thanks for the info

my 1st question is the picture on Community Chamber :: Social Insect Room the ants with the seeds can Lasius Niger eat them? The species in that picture, are FormicaLondon's Messor barbarus (harvestor ants) of which seeds are their main diet. L.nigers are not seed eaters, but are insect and fruit/sweet eaters. This doesn't mean that L. niger never eat seeds in the wild, but they are highly unlikely to in captivity, and both Wood and myself have not seen any evidence of Lasius collecting seeds in our garden from our own personal study of our wild nests my 2nd question is edu-sci have healthy ants? don't want a dead queen ant. bonus question what happens if the queen is dead when I get it do I have to replace it or will they give me a replacement or my money back?Go into the superstore section, and read some of the members posts, we have also bought from them with no problems, there are many here that have bought from this company and have recommended them with good results. You are always best if you can afford it, to buy a colony rather than just a queen. If a dead queen arrives, you keep the goods to return, and it is the companies duty to honour a replacement as long as you do this within a certain time. Terms and conditions are below.... store.edu-sci.com/terms-conditions-I-1.html?osCsid=4e39513d85e77821f9c2c68362afe03emy 3rd question is this good value for money? (http://store.edu-sci.com/starter-Lasius-niger-colony-p-359.html)Considering they are including the postage in the price you see, and it is the UK then yes, it is. They are a lot cheaper than Antstore, because they don't have to fly from Germany. and has anyone got any idea how to make my dad buy me it or persuade him that the site is safe?Look for a gold padlock in the corner when filling out card details, several members have purchased from here with excellent results. Buying off the internet is personal choice, and if your parents do not want to go there, you cannot force the issue as it is their bank account, and their cards oh yea am going over the top asking these questions or am I doing the right thing?Your selection of questions were at least all under the one subject so that was fine. It is only the various ant subjects that I like seperated around the various boards, like food, hunting etc

Regarding your question about Edu-Sci being a reputable company. I can only say that any members who have purchased ants or equipment from them can vouch for their value and reliability. We do have a member named "Melpchar" who I believe is affiliated with this company, so perhaps he should post here and answer this particular query? As stated in the rules of the forum, just because we advertise a certain company as selling ants, Jenant or this forum cannot be held fully responsible for their services; and any member who deals with any other member or company does so at their own risk. Having said this however, I have personally found both Edu-Sci and Ant store to be fair traders, and while some complaints may arise from ants being sold which arrived dead, Edu-Sci are fairly good at offering an excellent after sales service to their customers. Like buying any kind of pet from whatever source, nothing is ever guaranteed as being 100% foolproof, and accidental deaths will occur; but if you deal with a good reliable company, then you will receive a good service from them. I have bought from both sites and had no problems from either. Never be afraid to ask questions on this forum, as that is what we are here for. And welcome back
