What is the best way to build an ant farm?

I'm new to this web site, I have always been interested in having ant farms but I wanted to know what options do I have in building them, what are the different types of ant farms people use (plaster chambers or just glass,etc) and what types of soil or sand to put in the if they have any, or how to make an ant farm for carpenter ants which only burrow in wood and if any one has ever attempted to make a termite farm? please any instructions or websites you can give me I would appreciate, thanks!

Setting up a new ant farm or Formicarium as it is better called, as the word "Formicary" is Latin for ant nest, the question of making a suitable set up to keep ants in does arise often on the forum.
