I don't know about everyone else, (but I expect the same applies to all of us), I have found that over the years I have made many friends just by having an interest in those fascinating little beings better known to us as Ants ;D
Not that I want to sound in a condescending manner or anything here, but over time and through my own ant web site, plus being a member of a great ant forum like Jen has made in Ant Hill World, I have made so many friends around the world who all share the same love of ants.
I wish that I could meet you all, but holding a convention of ant lovers would prove both costly and difficult sadly; but I have met a few in person along the way thanks to my 50 years of studying and keeping ants as a hobby.
Once you've been "bitten by the bug" so to speak, ants really are insects in a class of their own, and that is why so many people find them so irresistible as they are remarkably so much like us in so many ways.
Thanks to the power of the Internet, I can now communicate and be friends with other ant lovers and eminent entomologists, who otherwise would have remained complete strangers to me and who I would never have known existed.
I am often helping schools, colleges and even universities with exam papers on the subject of ants, and I am always so happy to help educate the young people of today; but I do wish I could go on a field trip to study ants with my mates who are able to travel to some exotic locations. Not to mention any names, but I now know quite a few people who are very knowledgeable in the world of Myrmecology, and it would be both a pleasure and an honour to accompany these folks, and perhaps an experience of a lifetime, especially being stung or bitten by some species of ants I wouldn't normally come across here in Britain
So, have you guys made more new friends through becoming ant lovers? I expect most of you have, even if you've never met them
