Hello all, I have a Solenopsis Invicta nuptial queen. It's my first nuptial queen so I'm not sure what to do when her first workers arrive. She's in a tube right now.
When the workers arrive do they need food right away? Should I put them in their formicarium right away? When I see workers, what do I do? Any and all advice regarding the issue is appreciated.
She laid her first eggs over 2 weeks ago so the workers should arrive within a few weeks.
Thanks

You could place the open tube inside the tank. Once you see them venture out to forage, that is a good indication that they are looking for food. You do not want to stress the queen too much at this time, as you do not want her to eat her brood. Keep her quiet and out of direct light

While searching forums I found some people raising colonies of around 50 workers in a tube before putting them in a home. Why do they do that? Sorry, I know this is probably a dumb question, but I just want to get it right the first time without having to have a dead queen. I can't just buy another one in the USA. P.S. Love the forum. My favorite out of the 3 major ones

This species do well, and it is down to personal preference whether you continue to keep them in the tube for the time being whilst they are a small colony certainly. Don't forget to renew their air and freshen the water, periodically whilst in the tube they need some extra care Once they reach 20/30 workers, they will need to forage and spread themselves, and do what ants do naturally. Many thanks for the kind comments about this forum, I do my best to keep it as natural and friendly as possible....... Cheers
