Looks brilliant will definatley be watching, I am recording it as well in case I miss it. Yes, me too ;D It is on BBC HD if you have satellite and can get HD channels? It's the first time anyone has actually filmed this event, so it will be well worth watching and perhaps keeping on a DVD

Brilliant and even better in HD! Gruesome and powerful which was well narrated. I could watch it again, perhaps without gritted teeth next time

Wasn't this programme brilliant Not only did it show the rise of the Myrmecocystus colony from 10 queens, and its first nuptial flight after 6 years; but also how the colony met with its demise by encroaching on a larger nests territory. While I felt sorry for the canyon queen and her colony being attacked and destroyed by the water trough colony, it is nature after all; and they only got back what they had done earlier to smaller colonies around their area of the old corral Great film with great narration, and I hope the BBC nature guys will make more of this calibre Watch it in HD on Iplayer www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b013cj7q/hd/Natural_World_20112012_Empire_of_the_Desert_Ants/

There was a very interesting documentary on BBC2 on Thursday, all about honeypot ants. It can be seen on iPlayer, just search for Natural World and it will come up. Or it is repeated tonight at 6 on BBC2.

Hi all, I watched this on BBC2 last week. The images captured by John Brown were fantastic, good close ups with high def. He captured some queens and filmed them indoors while also filming a wild nest outside. Would be nice to film some of the ants I have with that type of equipment. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-14474376Recommend anyone who loves ants to watch it. The bit at the end when she reaches her demise was quite sad. He must of thrown in a load of wild ants to kill off the indoor colony. But I guess it made interesting viewing and happens naturally in the wild. All the best James
