just got first colony. Any tips on how to get ants into the ant world. The little bowl looks too small to take the test tube. Shall I just put hose end onto end of tube and put ants in fridge to slow them down

Getting ants from a test tube into an Ant World (or any set up for that matter) can be fun, and a bit of a tricky game First you need to get the ants as cold as possible in the fridge, until they become torpid and immobile. What I do is either gently tip the ants into the foraging pot, and let them make their own way into the set up; or place a small funnel (tun-dish) in the top of the Ant World, then tap the tube and allow the ants to fall in. The best way of doing this is to remove the top section (entire green part, not just the small lid bit) and quickly put it back in place before the ants become too active and start running out. Using either method you might lose a worker or two, but as long as the queen is safely in, most of her daughters will soon rally around her and settle in nicely. After about an hour or two they will probably begin digging out their nest, and all should be well

I have kept ants in a test tube inside my fridge for up to 2 hours without harm, although if it's a glass tube it can form condensation which the ants stick to making them harder to get out.
My advice is to keep them in your fridge [not freezer or they'll die] for half an hour, then get them into your ant world as fast as you can before they wake up fully and run around. As Wood says, get the top off and put them in that way, but close it as soon as the ants are in, especially the queen as you can afford to lose a few workers; but not her.
