::)In the spring I am going on holiday to Thailand and would like to bring some ants back to the UK when I return. Does anyone know what paperwork is required from the official authorities?

I must admit I have found very little to do with importing insects or any live stock (UK at least), plenty on foods/seed/plants etc, so the best thing could be if you can go down to your local civic center they should be able to tell you what you need to know. The only bit of info that I did find was that everything needs to be documented.

::)In the spring I am going on holiday to Thailand and would like to bring some ants back to the UK when I return. Does anyone know what paperwork is required from the official authorities? As I am not sure about anyone bringing ants from another country back into the UK, I don't know what (if any) special documentation is required You could try asking your local Citizens Advice Bureau or may even find something out in a library or police station perhaps One thing you could try is emailing our UK ant sellers such as Martin Goss or Adrian at Ansectopia, as they regularly import ants from other countries like China etc. Martin has connections with university museums and would probably know exactly what import permits are needed, so I will give his email address here. insects@martingoss0.wanadoo.co.uk

Thanks for your help. I regularly import orchids to the U.K. and they need Import Permits, Export Permits from the exporting country, Invoices, Phytosanitary certificates and additional U.K. Phytosanitary declarations - I hope that any Ants will not need all this!

Depending on whereabouts you live, if there is a zoo like Marwell which keeps Leaf Cutter ants in their exotic house, you could try asking them as they're sure to know about any import laws concerning insects from foreign countries
