Wow, I have never seen so many species of ant before. Those photos are excellent, bookmarked the page to have a closer look at them later.

Alex Wild is a good friend of mine who lives in the USA. He spends much of his time taking photos of ants and other insects for several universities, and as you can see, he has got close up macro photography down to a fine art. From my own experience of making videos of ants, getting up close and personal to ants can be tricky and requires you to assume some odd positions, such as lying down next to an ant nest with your camera lens at ground level sticking your face almost into a mass of ants. It is fine until they get annoyed about your presence and attack, then you have to either retreat fast, or endure the pain of bites and stings. Retreat is by far the best option I can tell you in every case
