I have placed the tube into the tank which is filled with the typical type of 'forest ground'.. pine needles, peat, leaves, sticks etc etc... the queen came out for a wonder about and I fed her some honey on a small leaf... ;D the honey was gone in about 5 minutes

Hi
Is this journal an off-shoot from the first one due to the two queens having been separated?

That is great news AntsEngland! The live stream regarding the colony is a great idea! I have passed 10 mins or so just staring at the screen.

I hope they get transferred into a tank where they would develop better I really prefer to see this particular species in the wild though where they belong.

Assuming there is a suitable forest nearby with sandy soil, then they should be released later on this year. Wood ants nest in some forests and not others, so you'd need to find an area which the species have already colonized before releasing them; and then this colony needs to be placed well away from a hostile nest, or they will be killed So the best thing is to try and put them back in the same place they were collected in the first place if at all possible? I'm sorry, but I disagree with keeping wood ants in captivity as they cannot behave normally

I don't want to start an argument here wood ant but, this would apply the same for all ant species... after all they are still ants... + I will be releasing them once the colony is big enough to withstand the conditions outside.... thanks anyway for the info though that is your opinion
