Hello peeps. I have a short video showing a queen ant that I'm not too familiar with. Can someone help me identify it? Also, I recently caught this queen ant and I have her in a test tube, is it safe to keep her in a test tube? The reason why I'm asking this because I've read that some queen ants tend to lay eggs and then forage for food while laying eggs. Here is the link. Thanks in advance!

If I know I'd reply, but I honestly didn't know. maybe wood or some one from USA on forum that keep native wild ants queens would identify her.

Thanks for replying and trying. I think it's Camponotus Ocreatus. I'm not too sure since there are a multitude of ants belonging to the Camponotus family. I hope I can start my very first colony with this species! I should start a journal. Jim.

Sorry Jim, as I missed this one; but as I am in Britain and know very few USA ant species I think you're right about her being C. ocreatus as I can't think of any other Campo with that colour of bright orange gaster

maybe if you can find an established wild nest of this nice looking queen, you could try to boost her with some brood from a wild colony. good luck with her whatever she is

Hmm thanks Wood Ant. Yeah I'm leaning more to the C. ocreatus. I was doing immense research while I was waiting for some possible answers and I found that 1, It's hard to find abundant information about this particular ant. And 2, when I did find information, I found that almost all the images match my queen as well as range, habitat, and behavior. So I will have to go with this species! Nevertheless, I will update you peeps on her status. Thanks, take care JIm.

To Blackant: Thanks for the suggestion. It's hard to find an established nest because these ants spend most of their time foraging at night. Their nests are nothing but a small hole in the ground with no "hill".. I live in the Southwestern deserts and you should try digging into the soil. It's as hard as studying Calculus haha. No but it's really hard to dig through. ;D I'll post some pictures of ant colonies within my region. It's interesting.
