Hi,
Gave my L. Niger a chopped up mealworm yesterday, they didn't seem too interested to start with.
This morning however a lot of the workers were all over it for while but there is still a bit left that remains untouched and they have not been back to it all day that I have seen.
Should I now remove what is left, or might they go back to it?
If I do remove it, how long should I leave it before giving them fresh protein again?
I appreciate your help.

While the food is still fresh, leave it as your ants will continue to nibble at it for several days. Only if it gets very dry or starts to grow white fungi strands (usually after 3 days) do you need to remove it and replace with fresh food. Ants are by nature scavengers and will often eat things that have been dead for days, but enjoy fresh food too, so a choice of foods is as good for them as it is for us. 1f272727f769137327ecdc4044e746e2
