Hi All,
Just a quick question about keeping my vertical farm moist enough.
I have a layer of the absorbing pellet things on the bottom, with sand loam mix above it and I put in a small straw that feeds down to the pellets on the bottom (Wasn't sure if this was necessary or not, but did it anyway).
Anyway, my question is..... how much water should be at the bottom where the pellets are? Should I just put in enough water to keep these moist? Or should there actually be a small pool of water that they can soak up over time?
Thank You!
Mark

Hi Mark, The vertical farm should be moist enough so the ants can form tunnels without collapsing, (sand castle consistancy). Don't over soak a nest so you have a pool of water anywhere. This is not only a danger to ants, but a lot of water encourages bacteria and mold. Little and often is the trick, once a vertical is the right consistancy they stay moist for a long time, even a plant spray sprayed down through the top (when no ants about) keeps it ticking over
