Just a simple novice question...
How long does it take for ant eggs to hatch into little ants.
Egg, larvae, pupae, ant of that's right.. :/ thank you

Glad you found it helpful Stu, as many first time ant keepers get confused about brood development, so it is worth my while to post as much info as I can and have learned about this subject over my 50 years of ant hunting.

On the same subject I have a Camponotus micans queen. She arrived with 1 worker and a naked cocoon. That was 6 months ago ish). The naked cocoon vanished at the same time the worker 'went mad' and left the nest to stand on a rock until it too vanished (still cannot find its corpse). However the queen has a new brood (about 5 eggs), is this normal? I have never seen her eat yet!! What a fascinating little creature!

As far as I know when queens are disturded they will eat their brood and once settled will start again, so do not worry just keep her quiet and in the dark

This can often happen with a young founding queen that has not founded her colony. Mature pupae and even dead worker ants may be cannibalised and eaten. If she has laid more eggs the only thing is to keep your fingers crossed that she will raise them to adulthood, and offer food for her and her brood, as if she doesn't eat or feed her larvae, you cannot force her to do so.

If any members are interested in the subject of ant eggs as opposed to brood in general, then this new topic might help Ant Egg Types
