Hi everyone, I'm a new member of the forum here, just quickly asking a couple of questions which I hope someone here can help with. I have made a ytong nest and ordered a colony of Messor Barbarus from King of the Ants, I had an idea however for a foraging area which would involve an antstore arena I have lying around with a layer of pva glue on the bottom, covered in sand, small boiled stones and some small aquarium plants. The glue will keep the ants from digging into the sand and also keep the stones and plants in place so they can act as landmarks for the foraging Messors. I was just wondering if this is safe? Are there any chemicals which might harm the ants in the glue? Also, I have heard that messors are very sensitive to vibration. Once the next semester begins I will need to transport the ants by car (about an hour's drive) - will the vibration disturb the ants (especially the queen)? Thanks a lot everyone!

Live ants are transported all around the world to ant sellers stores, and when you buy ants they may spend a few days in the post which results in them being bumped about a bit. As long as you pack them in a cardboard box and some kind of padding then a car journey will do no harm.
As far as the glue base is concerned, if the smell has long since gone and it is entirely covered with sand, then I see no reason for worry about it. I have used glue to fasten escape proof mesh on my ant tanks, and my Messors are all alive and well.

Okay that is great to know! Thank you for the quick reply. I will fix up the formicarium! I was just wondering if anyone knows if King of the Ants send a dispatch confirmation email. I ordered the ants on Thursday night but have not been contacted by them, I was not sure if the ants are on the way.

We have not had dispatch emails from king of ants, but he is reliable we have had a lot of ants from him, with no problem. You will see his name pop up on the bottom of the forum, usually weekdays. Sometimes he's out of the country, but he normally tells you. You could leave him a pm if you are concerned.

Hi Jenant, thanks for the information I am fine waiting as the aquarium sealant will not be ready for the ants until Monday evening anyway! But it is relieving to know my order has not been lost.
