My new ants have arrived (Lasius niger) And my set up all done, do I just put them in the test tube into my ant box, and let them come out naturally?...or is there a way to encourage them out?...if somebody has done a complete newbie guide on this forum I would be grateful if some one would point me to the link, so I don't have to keep asking complete newbie Q's

You can place the tube in the box, as a lot of members do to let them leave naturally. This can take weeks if the nest is not made more inviting than staying in the tube such as the tube in the light and the nest dark. The other way is to tap them out into your set up, removing eggs with a soft paint brush.

...if somebody has done a complete newbie guide on this forum I would be grateful if some one would point me to the link, so I don't have to keep asking complete newbie Q's We don't really make an easy starter guide for individual ant species, as this would take up too much time; and as there are plenty of threads made by members around the forum concerning getting started with a new ant colony, it tends to be a case of digging around in boards such as Native Ant Species, Novice Ant Keepers and the Formicariums board, as all of them contain a lot of information in the history of posts, plus you will perhaps more stuff which is in the Archives. Besides which, we love answering questions and members like to read the posts.
