I don't know about how our younger school attending members feel about it, but when I was at school I loved the long 6 weeks away from school when I was a boy. Yes, they could get a bit boring at times, but the freedom from sitting in a stuffy classroom was a great feeling. It also afforded me long summer days of just walking the hills and checking out the ants and other wildlife, as well as some lovely scenic views across the Cheshire Plain, as on a good day I could see all the way over to Manchester about 17 miles to the north, and down into Staffordshire and the Potteries region around Stoke-on-Trent. On a clear day I could even see the mountains of North Wales over 30 miles away. I wish we had a computer back then, as to find any good info about ants the only choice was to watch TV or read books. Sadly there were no forums like Ant Hill World to provide all the help, so keeping ants was something you learned about by trial and error, often keeping them in soil in a clean jam or empty coffee jar. So if you find yourself bored during the long school hols, then why not join our forum and invite your mates along, as then you will have a lot of common ground to chat about; and it is always good fun if you have friends who are interested in the same hobbies as you, as I had a small gang of school chums and we made a kind of foraging safari expedition out of all our ant hunting exploits, which was a good way of spending some free time.

I wait all year for the summer holidays! Its such a relief knowing you don't have to get up at 7am for school. The weather has been great this year (for the most part) so just like you Wood I've spent lots of time in the hills! I've been down in Blackpool the walks around Lancashire are great for ant hunting!
As for my friends keeping pets isn't really on their agenda, it more games like Call Of Duty and HALO. As I live in Glasgow its hard to go ant hunting when someone stares at you while you lift a stone.

I'm a cook in a primary school and just finished for my summer holidays and I get just as excited as when I was a kid.

Here in Scotland our kids already been off for a month, and I can tell you I am so ready for it to end, have had enough of trying to keep not only mine, but other peoples kids amused and not fighting.

I used to hate school, it never got any better as I grew older either. The holidays were never long enough, to be able to stay away from the place was heaven. The first day back, my stomach was always in turmoil. This feeling was soon to be followed by the dreaded word "Work" for the next 36years! I am so glad I am out of it all now and answerable to nobody but myself
