hello I have just started ant keeping and would love to hear feedback on any tips people can offer. Also websites where I can purchase different colonies. At the moment I have Myrmica rubra, Manica rubida, Lasius niger, Lasius flavus and the thief ant. thank you.

Hi Deadtree and welcome to the Ant Hill. You will find if you click the Ant Links just below the forum banner that it will open links to ant selling sites. Just click on the individual pics to open them. You will find more information on the ants you keep around the boards, and where you can post any questions. So have fun exploring and all our members will do their best to help you out.

Hi Deadtree, welcome to the forum. You will find a lot of great information around here from very knowledgeable ant keepers. It would be great to see and hear about the colonies that you already have over in the Journal's board.

I too am a novice (colony arrived in early March) so know the excitment of having ants as house guests! My advice is have patience, by the bucket full. My colony is still tiny, literally, a few workers and a laid back queen. There are times when you think disaster has struck, no action, all quiet. But as long as your queen is still doing her thing ie. egg laying things will move on. It amazes me how little attention they need, in fact, they like to get on with things at their own pace and no matter what we do, they`ll do what they want! Welcome to the forum, this has been my salvation on many a worrying day!
