Hello,
I am selling two colonies (I need space as my clan is expanding!). So can I enquire, what will be the best way to send ants, already established in a formicarium?
Ultimately if the buyer lives close enough I would quite happily meet half way.
Thank you,
Stu The Ant
PS, I am not selling all my colonies, just after my initial start-up mad phase (we have all suffered it I am sure) I realise they do need more than I can offer!

What species are you selling Stu? You may also need to say what price you want for them, taking into account the ants, formicarium and P&P.

I am considering selling. I am just wondering how do I 'pack' them. Or do I just pack and hope they get there in good condition. Once I have packing sorted I will put a price on them Cheers Stuart

Hi Stu, you need to tell the members what species you are selling?
You need loads of bubble wrap, newspaper or polysterene for protection and stop them rolling about. Also a sturdy box and a good courier.
You do need to say what they are currently living in and what species they are before you fix a price? Oh, and what area do you live in?

Cheers, I'll sort them now. I didn't want to say what I was selling (It is Camp Hercs and Lig) because I do not really want to sell them, but I must. I will wrap them in there formicariums and write in BIG letters VERY FRAGILE/LIVE ANIMALS. In the hope the couriers respect it! I will also remove as much sand, rocks I have in there (they are plastic anyway so I can bury them in a deep box).

I feel sure that Camponotus herculeanus and C. ligniperda will sell quickly. How big are the colonies in size (workers and brood)?

OK, the Herc is now x1Q and x5worker strong (with larvae). If you remember this Queen never raised any colony last year. The Lig colony is x1Q and about 10/11 workers (and brood). I will go and find suitable boxes and before packing should I block any holes with cotton wool (so they say in the brood area)? As soon as I find something I will put the official ad on here

If the holes are big enough for ants to get out, then block them and make the set up and container 100% escape proof. Wet cotton wool plugs work well for sending live ants as dry they will pull at it, you can cover with sticky tape to hold things in place; and pack plenty of crunched up newspaper around the set up to stop it moving about if you don't have bubble wrap.
