On Friday I picked up this queen, after she gave me quite the run around, I did at one point think I had caused her some damage, but luckily not. She is now in a test tube set up, inside a dark unused cupboard, had a quick check tonight and am sure she has laid an egg, which surprised me as my other lem queen didn't lay till after hibernation, so am excited, will leave her a while and hope there are more eggs on my next check.

Had a check today and there looks to be only one egg, I may but in a small amount of honey water, see if it stops her eating her remaining one.

Unfortunately the eggs seemed to have been eaten. The water is also running out, I will have to address that soon, but pretty much think that will be it for this queen till after hibernation.

Have moved the queen into a clean test tube, but thats pretty much it, she remains alive and healthy.

Have decided not to hibernate this queen over winter, I gave her some honey water a couple weeks ago and she laid some eggs, although I don't really expect them to last, I have moved her into a warmer place in the house and see what happens.

Well how shocked and chuffed am I, just had a quick check of the queen, really to see if the eggs had turned to larvae and if I may need to put protein in, and actually found her with 4 large cocoons and an egg, now am in two minds whether to just leave her alone, or should I give her some honey/water, any advice would be welcome.

I don't see any harm in offering her refreshments. Sounds like she's making good progress now!

Yeah here's hoping it continues, I am shocked how quickly things have gone, the warmth has really helped. Am totally chuffed, hope they hatch.

Still 4 cocoons, hopefully will not be long till they eclose, and now a nice little pile of eggs, will try her with some protein at the weekend.

You will have to keep her brood at a temperature warm enough for the cocooned pupae to eclose now that winter is here. I would suggest a minimum of 17 Celsius over a 24 hour period.

She is in the cupboard where the boiler is, warmest place in the house, so fingers crossed it's enough.

No its not an old fashioned boiler, so the cupboard isn't too hot.
