A member of the forum has asked me if I could send my Lasius niger colonies to him in the States. However, I have a niggling feeling that there are laws against this. I know they have strict regulations over there. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks in advance!

It is against US Federal law to ship ants in/out of the US. Do not do it.

It's illegal to send live ants across state borders in the USA, and also illegal to send them from within the US to another country, and vice versa. It's actually legal to send ants across province borders in Canada though.

While it can be legal for certain USA members to collect some ant species and move them from one state to another, as Miles has done this with ants found in Arizona, it is NOT legal for UK members to send live ants to America and some other countries. Tell this member you cannot do it as you would be breaking the laws of the USA.

The member of this forum whoever he or she is, should know better! There is enough information on this subject all around the forum, my guess is they are trying it on and putting you in danger of the law. This thread is also good to read Info on USA Laws
