It is with much sadness that our Lhasa Apso dog died today. He had a tumour on his back leg which was spreading through his body, and it burst earlier this morning and he had to be taken to the vet. Treatment was not likely to cure the problem and would have involved a lot of painful surgery, so the vet said it would be kinder to put our old boy to sleep. This was very quick and painless, but it is still a very deeply sad day for Jenny and myself as we had had Bobby since he was a puppy of 7 weeks, and he was 15 years old, so an old dog in human terms. We knew this day would come, but it is sad for us, even though we have our 2 year old girls with us. Rest in Peace Bob, we will miss having you around old boy.

Yes a hard day, and the tears won't stop. Being upset in front of Bess the black Cav is difficult as she washes your face and tears away frantically in a bid to stop you being upset. I will scatter his ashes in the woods where he walked round every day. It's the first time I have witnessed a dog being put to sleep and it was quick, they then gave me as much time as I wanted with him. Different to when the cat was taken, they just took him out the back.

This was really sad reading about. My condolences. The loss of a dog is very painful Speaking from experience.. At least you have your girls trying their best to make you happy.

I'm very sorry for your loss and know how much it hurts. You will always love and miss him because he was family. Try to find some joy from all the wonderful years he has shared with you both.

Thanks for your kind words of sympathy guys, I can still hear him squeaking for meals, but it seems odd just to put down 2 bowls of dog food instead of 3 at the moment.

I am sorry to hear this Wood and Jenny. I was very upset when my cat died and my house seemed so empty without him. I would come home from work and expect to see him running up to meet me as he always did. It was hard times, but I took comfort that he was loved by me and had a good life, and you both can take the same comfort in that Bobby had a good life with you.

I am dreadfully sorry to hear about this, I hope time will heal the sadness. As others have said, Bobby had a fantastic life, it's a shame it has come to a sad end.

Not a good night, Bess kept consoling me by washing my face and trying to give me a bear hug. This morning they were both looking under my bed, as they usually wake Bobby up in the mornings.
