I have had a small colony from the beginning of last week from the start the queen has acted very strangely. Though her workers are quite active, she isn't. I checked on her most days without disturbing them but she stayed in the same place almost frozen. I had them on a heat mat so I doubt it was tempurature. Anyhow I received an acri nest from anthouse yesterday and they have moved into the connection tube. The workers and brood at one end near the foraging box and the queen on her own in the middle playing musical statues. I'm really beginning to have some reservations about this colony already.

While some queens are never as active as their workers, she should at least be making a move to get closer to the rest of her colony and lay eggs as mine is doing. Where did you get this colony from Smudge? Perhaps the seller may be able to help with some advice.

It was ants minalo though I may have intervened a bit to get them into the acri nest chambers where they seem a lot more active and altogether in one chamber.

Hope things settle and the queen starts to lay eggs, as they can be expensive to buy and if the colony fails it is hard to know who was at fault? A lot depends on where the seller gets their stocks from and from who supplied the ants, or it may be that a colony has some kind of illness or infection; but reliable ant sellers will offer either a refund if a queen dies or a replacement colony.

And a worker hatched yesterday and is now dead for no apparent reason.... I am really confused here.
