I am native to the UK and forage for insects and seeds, making me a harvester ant. I am not found in the far north of England, but mostly in the south and from East Anglia across to south Wales. I live in heathland and my family has just one mother, and I am a small ant species which can be easily missed in the wild; but may also be seen in towns, cities and villages.
So, which ant species am I?

Just done a bit a reading and it sounds like it maybe the species Lasius alienus (cornfield ant) ?
As it says they eat gorse seeds and gorse grows on heathland.

Second clue. This species collect and store a variety of grass seeds as well as other seeds from herb plants. I will give a 3rd clue if nobody guesses the right answer.

Easy clue. I am known as the sugar ant in parts of the USA, but more commonly known as the Pavement Ant in most countries.
